NRECA International conducted a study for Ghana’s Ministry of Energy, to develop an investment plan to achieve universal access. Funded by the World Bank, the Feasibility and Investment Planning Study for Ghana’s Last-Mile Electrification as completed in 2023.
In 2022, the team developed social and gender integration plans for the country’s power sector. This project was part of a contract with the Millennium Challenge Corporation, to ensure that the country’s energy programs met the needs of women, the poor and other marginalized group. This was implemented in partnership with the Energia International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy.
In 2014, the team completed a comprehensive investment analysis for the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), an insitution that plays a key role in the economic viability in a vast area of Northern Ghana. Funded by the U.S. trade and Development Agency, the final report helped the organization improve commercial performance, reduce technical and non-technical losses, and evaluate a pathway to long-term financial sustainability.
NRECA International supported economic transformation in rural Ghana, with projects to support the NEDCo. To help NEDCo establish institutional and financial sustainability, the NRECA International team helped establish irrigated farming hubs that could significantly increase crop yields and allow subsistence farmers to dramatically increase revenues. The team also supported efforts to dramatically improve revenue recovery, loss reduction and improve management of NEDCo facilities, leading the way for extending electric service to two irrigation hubs in Northern Ghana.
