The Gift of Light is a donation program that gives U.S. electric cooperative employees an opportunity to support NRECA International’s electrification access initiatives around the world, through payroll donations. Co-ops who participate in this program will receive information to help co-op employees understand the impact of our work, how their support will help our mission and how US-co-ops have been involved for more than 60 years.
Concern for Community
The Gift of Light program helps fund our electrification initiatives. This program enables U.S. electric co-ops to champion cooperative values and principles, show concern for community and foster cooperation among cooperatives. We are supported by more than 300 electric cooperatives in the US, and many private organizations contributing time, money and materials to dozens of NRECA International projects. Hundreds of co-op directors, linemen, engineers, managers and other employees have served as volunteers in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa to bring first-time access to electricity, and train local partners to help utilities be sustainable in their own communities.
What Donations Will Do
Donations from co-op employees will empower people worldwide to improve their quality of life by providing them access to safe, reliable and affordable electricity. This support will:
- Expand our volunteer program.
- Help communities after natural disasters.
- Connect “last mile” populations to the power grid.
- Support productive uses of electricity programs which teaches communities how to use electricity to generate income, and create business loans for local member-consumers to have access to equipment, tools or appliances.
