CDF Awards NRECA International Grant for Haiti Work
(International Foundation, May, 2010)
The NRECA International Foundation has won a grant from the Cooperative Development Foundation (CDF) to continue its work with rebuilding the electric generation and distribution system in earthquake-stricken Haiti.
NRECA will use the grant, worth $24,250, to begin a program to bring skilled volunteer line workers to Haiti to train local linemen and help restore service to the Port-au-Prince grid. The Foundation is hoping to begin sending volunteers in June.
“We are pleased to announce these first grant awards to three U.S. organizations that are helping to rebuild the Haitian cooperative community and assuring that cooperatives will be part of the rebuilt Haitian economy,” said CDF Board Chair Terry Lewis.
